Here is a copy of an email sent to all U12 and U14 Players.
During a Bristol Youth Soccer Board Meeting held Thursday July 20th it was decided to combine the U12 and U14 age groups as we have done in the recent past. This format allows BYSA to form a sufficient amount of teams to play each other during the forthcoming Fall season. As a result we now have 4 U12/U14 girls and 6 U12/U14 boys teams for the Fall Season (girls v girls and boys v boys only)! In response to feedback from last season when the 11v11 format was used, it was also decided to play in a small-sided format (e.g. 8v8) which will allow more participation from all players and result in a better experience.
Additionally, as is the practice among many other Associations across the State, BYSA has made a decision not to enter travel teams in the Fall Superliga. Compared to the Spring Superliga season, the Fall is not as well attended by other Associations. As an example, this year the Spring Superliga had four divisions (A,B+,B-,C) for U12 girls with more than fifty teams participating statewide, the Fall Superliga had eight teams total and placed them in an open division. Instead, BYSA is encouraging all travel players to play in the Fall BYSA program. As of the close of registration, >50% of the players registered to play in the Fall have played for a travel team or in a scholastic league. Therefore, BYSA feels that the result will be beneficial for all and improve the quality of the Fall program.
As an alternative to entering travel teams into the Fall Superliga, BYSA's competitive programs will begin in early September. The Travel coaches will hold a weekly open practice for players wishing to continue to train and play competitively. BYSA will coordinate organized "friendly" scrimmages with other Associations and select players to compete in tournament play with the intention of participating in at least one tournament and in some cases two. In this way, BYSA travel teams will play more games than offered through Superliga and play at an appropriate competitive level not available in the Fall Superliga. In late Fall, BYSA will hold tryouts for the travel teams and select players to compete in the Spring Superliga. In preparation, over the winter the travel teams will enter an indoor league to train for the Spring season.
Should you now wish to withdraw your child's registration based on the above please contact Stu Gaskell at email@example.com soonest so that you can receive a full refund of your registration fee.
