I have been asked a number of questions by parents with regards to tryouts and the formation of competitive teams. I will attempt to answer some of those questions below however I and other BYSA directors will be on hand on Saturday to speak with all parents direct.
1. When are tryouts?
Tryouts for both competitive boys and girls take place this Saturday October 15th as follows;
U8 - U14 Boys 2pm - 3.30pm (Registration begins at 1pm)
U8 - U14 Girls 4pm - 5.30pm (Registration begins at 3pm)
2. Must my child attend tryouts?
YES - In order for your child to be considered for any team selection they MUST attend tryouts. If your child is unable to attend prior notification must be forwarded via email to firstname.lastname@example.org
Be advised the current fall competitive teams will be disbanded after their final game and new teams formed based on these tryout results.
3. Who are the assigned coaches?
The coaches for most teams have already been identified, however, until we know the exact number of children interested in participating in tryouts and competitive soccer we do not have an exact number of teams.
Be advised that BYSA is totally formed of very dedicated NON-PAID volunteers (and that includes me) nobody at BYSA receives any monies for time, effort and or dedication. If we do not have enough coaches we actively need parents and volunteers to step forward to assist in order that we do not disappoint any children.
BYSA fully reimburses any courses that parents/volunteers have to attend in order to become a coach.
As always, BYSA is looking for interested parents/volunteers to step forward and assist the program in coaching.
4. Which age group does my child tryout for?
Your child will tryout for the age group that they are currently participating in for Fall recreational.
In other words - If your son is playing U10 Fall recreational then he will be trying out for U10 Boys competitive program.
5. What is the competitive program?
In the spring 2011 season BYSA had 21 competitive teams ranging from U8 through U16 that participated in the RI Super Liga program against other RI town teams.
The competitive program is split into 3 seasons - Winter, Spring & Fall
Winter Indoor - Program is split into 2 sessions. 1st session runs from November through December and 2nd session between January and March. Teams play at different indoor venues around the area - namely Sherwood Ultra Sports (Seekonk MA) or Teamwork's Somerset (Somerset MA). There are other facilities however the vast majority of teams will play at either of the above venues. Teams play weekly (normally Saturday) against other age/skill appropriate town teams from around the area.
Some teams opt not to play 1st session (Pre Christmas) but will practice weekly and then participate in the 2nd session after the New Year.
Spring - teams play a minimum of 8 games against other RI club town teams. 4 home games will be held at Bristol Town Beach and the team will travel to other towns to play 4 away games. Be advised the state is split into different regions North, South and Central. Each team will be placed within a region as chosen by the Head Coach prior to the season beginning. At this stage we cannot state which other teams the club will be playing.
Fall - The competitive program is only for U12 - U14 teams and is of the same vein as spring.
6. When will I find out if my child has made the team?
All teams will be announced NO later than Thursday October 20th.
7. Does my child have to play indoor and spring?
Naturally BYSA is looking for a dedicated commitment from both a player and parents to participate in competitive soccer.
If however you feel that your child cannot participate in indoor but would like to play Spring (or vice versa) then you must annotate this on the registration form prior to tryouts.
8. When & Where do the team's practice?
For the Winter Indoor season BYSA has booked spaces at various school facilities in Bristol / Warren however some teams opt to practice at a designated indoor soccer facility (Sherwood/Teamwork's) where additional fees apply.
Teams will only normally practice for 1 hour per week.
Spring / Fall - teams will practice at Bristol Town Beach and may practice up to 2 times per week.
9. How much does it cost?
Winter Indoor - pricing is dependent on which indoor facility the team decides to play.
Spring/Fall - Pricing is currently $75 per player.
All BYSA competitive players will be required to purchase a full uniform from Gob Shop. BYSA has a 3 year contract with Adidas to supply our uniforms. The current contract is now in its second year. The uniform is the Adidas Regista. Each player will be required to purchase 1 home and away shirt, shorts and socks. Each player will be assigned a uniform number from BYSA.
The cost of the uniform is
Regista Jersey (required)
Regista Alternate Jersey (required)
Equipo Shorts (required)
- Youth- $16.50
- Adult- $18.50
Copa Zone Socks
- Youth- $7.50
- Adult- $7.50
I fully appreciate that some of you might have more questions than those listed above or need further clarification.
I would appreciate if you could wait until tryouts on Saturday so that both I and other BYSA directors can brief you all personally and answer any questions then that you may have.
Thank you for your continued support of BYSA and I look forward to seeing you all at tryouts on Saturday.
