In a division including just three teams the Bristol Banshees started and finished the season the same way.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
-- UNDEFEATED --.
Playing as the only town team against two premier organizations a flat out "no quit" attitude permeated this team. Even when forced to play one opponent with 6 players versus their 8 the Bristol Banshees suffered their only tie. But when the Banshees brought 8 to the field our opponents could not defeat the Banshees.
The play was consistent all season with Ali Wetherald and Julia Vollaro holding every opposing striker at bay with Kristina Lynch shoring up the middle of our defense. This defense played in front of a near flawless keeper in one Ali Threadgil who let up only two goals through five full games of competition. Alex Hill, Angie Mascena, Torri Viera, Victoria Lombardo and Kayleigh Viera all helped move the ball consistently with crisp passing and at times dazzling finishes like Alex Hill's volley and perfectly placed header in last night's final. Carmen Hogan and Trudy Robinson dominated the midfield and distributed the ball time after time and helped the Banshees keep the ball in our oppositions end for the majority of the season and certainly in last night's final game. Exhausted from effort the Banchees were awarded their first championship with a 1-0 victory over Bayside Stompers.
This was an exceptional effort from BYSA's first U/19 girl's team in the history of BYSA. Coach Matt Hill and Coach Ken Viera could not be more proud of this team's efforts.
